The 3 best things about being your own boss
With more than 600,000 businesses registered in 2015 alone, the urge to start a business doesn’t look like it’s slowing down any time soon.
We asked three of our loan recipients why starting a business and being your own boss could be the best thing you’ll ever do.
1. Freedom
One of the most important reasons many cite for running their own business is the freedom that it allows.
“It doesn’t come without effort but ultimately you’re free to make your own decisions and you’re free to succeed.”
– John Magill, Powderkeg Brewery
Being your own boss allows you to work from anywhere at any time and allows flexibility if you have children, needy pets or just don’t like the traditional 9-5 working hours.
Where else would you have a commute that’s just a flight of stairs?
However, it’s not all roses; your business success is reliant on yourself, not others, and this can mean long hours.
2. Fulfilment
Nothing is more fulfilling than experiencing success with your very own business.
Starting up allows you to build a company which you can take a huge amount of pride in.
“Starting my own business is one of the most exciting, rewarding and challenging things I have ever done.”
– Paula Francis, PK Performance
While the challenge of building a vibrant business may be large it ensures that when your hard work and dedication pays off, success tastes that much sweeter.
It is also much easier to motivate yourself when you are working on something you believe in.
3. Learning
Have you ever grown tired of being stuck in the same role, doing the same thing day after day, week after week?
That certainly isn’t a problem for our Start Up Loan recipients.
“The best thing about running a small business is that you learn so much about your own strengths. Every day is different and I am challenged in new ways, but getting through those challenges and working out solutions for myself without being told how is the best feeling.”
– Katie Sargent, Utta Nutta
