As part of Black History Month, we spoke to TJ Bouchada and asked her to reflect on her thoughts on starting a business and her advice to others thinking of following the same path.

Any advice for younger black men and women looking to start their own business?
Be open to new people, challenges and experiences. It’s important to engage with other cultures in order to diversify your thought process and find inspiration.
Any inspiration for you starting your own business?
I come from a creative family and have been able to observe them work, even though their fields are unrelated to mine, I found that I could take notes and use them in different contexts in my business.
Any barriers to starting a business that you may have faced or observed in the industry?
Myself! I think it’s easier to find external barriers than to look inwardly and be honest about where your weaknesses are. Weaknesses aren’t inherently bad but it’s helpful to explore the reasons why they’re there.
